Although we’ve been using Soundbeam for several years now, we’re still learning how to get the best from it. A break-through occurred at a fortnightly workshop we run for more able members which concentrates on communication and where we’re currently using face animation software which animates photos and makes them talk. As part of this we’re putting together a short film and score, using Soundbeam.

The break-through was in realising the difference it makes to have a purpose for this group when using Soundbeam. Asked to imagine for instance a scene in a wood, several members got up and performed on four switches and two beams with a concentration and delicacy not seen in this group before. The music was recorded and will be used in the film. The members who contributed were also very vocal as to how they sounded and delighted at what they’d achieved.

It showed us that away from the setting of using Soundbeam with the profoundly disabled then it helps to have a very definite purpose as this will secure the person’s attention for a much longer time.
