Sunny Chana’s work on display in the Music Gym

twlight3.jpgThis is Twilight – one of the stunning works of digital artist, Sunny Chana, that we’re projecting in the Music Gym in Hastings.

Sunny, who’s based in Birmingham, contacted us about displaying his work in the Music Gym. As we set up and dismantle the equipment each week that wasn’t feasible so we offered instead to use the images IN the Music Gym. They can be seen on the wall adjoining the “chill-out” gazebo where members can relax, watching the images and changing them as they wish with the use of switches and sensors.

vivid2.jpgSunny’s family came to the UK from Nairobi and he attributes his interest in art to their artistic skills. Since studying for a degree in printed textile, he uses photographs to create contemporary images that he prints onto fabrics or paper. He describes his artwork as an exploration of his emotions around being hearing-impaired, through his journeys from mainstream education to everyday life. He searches for colours that show and represent the title of the artworks: he says that due to his hearing impairment his mind is strongly focused on the visuals of colours instead of listening to the sounds.

bleed2.jpgThis image is titled Bleed. Each artwork has a story to tell: Sunny likes to create titles “that are a mismatch to the artworks, leaving the audience to examine or quest for the true meaning of the artwork.”

We’re honoured to have the chance to use these images and we hope the members will respond to the emotions expressed in them. There are a lot more examples of Sunny’s work on his website www.sunnychana.com under Artwork Canvas for Sale. Sunny Chana Digital Prints is also able to offer students and artists the opportunity to print their own designs onto fabrics.
